IndiGo, the foremost carrier in the nation, disclosed on Thursday its procurement of 30 wide-body A350-900 aircraft. This airline, which is broadening its global footprint, has hitherto exclusively operated narrow-body Airbus crafts save for a duo of Boeing 777 planes leased from Turkish Airlines for its operations on the Istanbul route.
In a formal statement, the airline articulated its foray into the “wide body domain with an acquisition of 30 definite Airbus A350-900 crafts”. These aircraft shall be propelled by Rolls Royce’s Trent XWB engine.
“The precise configuration of the planes shall be determined at a subsequent phase, with deliveries slated to commence from 2027. In conjunction with the firm order of 30 A350-900 aircraft, IndiGo holds the prerogative to purchase an additional 70 Airbus A350 lineage crafts, at its discretion, for prospective exigencies under specific circumstances,” the statement elucidated.
At present, IndiGo operates a fleet exceeding 350 aircraft. In June of the preceding year, IndiGo executed the largest singular aircraft procurement in the annals of aviation, acquiring 500 aircraft from Airbus.
