In New Delhi, there has been a significant escalation of approximately 149 percent in legal actions pertaining to the utilization of cellular devices while operating vehicles since the commencement of this year, contrasting with the equivalent timeframe in the previous year, as per data provided by the traffic authorities.
The statistical information, disclosed by the Traffic Division of Delhi, denotes a marked upsurge in breaches of regulations concerning mobile phone usage while driving. During the interval spanning from January 1st to April 15th, a total of 15,846 drivers were cited for this transgression, markedly surpassing the 6,369 incidents recorded in 2023, as asserted.
In recent durations, the traffic enforcement personnel have noted a disconcerting escalation in the practice of utilizing mobile phones while driving. This unsettling pattern has prompted the division to implement stringent measures to safeguard the well-being of all commuters,” expressed a senior officer of the traffic division.
As per the authorities, a thorough examination of the primary ten traffic zones, encompassing Defence Colony, Punjabi Bagh, Karol Bagh, and Safdarjung Enclave among others, where the highest number of penalties were issued in 2024, has also been conducted by the Delhi Traffic Division.
The traffic authorities emphasized that the Delhi Traffic Division is actively involved in public awareness initiatives aimed at enlightening drivers about the hazards associated with using mobile phones while driving.
“We implore all members of the populace to prioritize road safety by abstaining from the usage of mobile phones while operating vehicles,” urged the officer.
