In the midst of demands for the implementation of anti-gang apparatus within dormitories, a 19-year-old scholar from Haryana, engrossed in NEET preparations in Kota, succumbed to self-inflicted demise within his lodging on Sunday evening.
Law enforcement authorities disclosed that the deceased, identified as Sumit Kumar, was discovered lifeless at Uttam Residency within the Landmark locality. Hailing from Rohtak in Haryana, Sumit had been domiciled in Kota for the duration of a year.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Rajesh Kumar Soni, elucidated that the tragedy unfolded around 10:30 pm on Sunday. Subsequent to the incident, authorities secured the deceased’s dormitory and apprised his kin of the somber episode. Soni further conveyed that post-mortem examinations and ancillary formalities would transpire on Monday. This incident marks the sixth instance of self-inflicted demise within Kota this year.
The precise catalyst behind the suicide remains indeterminate. Denizens of the vicinity remarked upon the absence of any anti-asphyxiation apparatus within Sumit’s lodging at Uttam Residency.
Within Kota, all hostel and PG accommodations are mandated to integrate anti-suicidal measures within their facilities. Sumit was slated to undertake the NEET UG 2024 examination administered by the National Testing Agency on May 5. Having previously participated in the NEET examination, conjecture suggests that he may have been overwhelmed by the impending assessment, precipitating his drastic course of action.
