In Chandigarh, Punjab’s law enforcement authorities disclosed the dismantling of a global narcotics syndicate spanning five nations, culminating in the apprehension of three individuals and the confiscation of 48 kilograms of heroin, marking a significant interception in the region’s drug trade. The estimated worth of the seized heroin stands at approximately Rs 250 crore. The arrested individuals hail from Jalandhar and Nawanshahr.
Gaurav Yadav, the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP), elucidated that the Jalandhar Police had disrupted an expansive drug network of international proportions, detaining three operatives in possession of 48 kg of heroin.
“This syndicate was actively engaged in the illicit trade of narcotics across borders and between states, maintaining a clandestine network within the domestic sphere extending across two states, namely Jammu and Kashmir and Gujarat, in addition to its transnational reach encompassing Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey, Pakistan, and Canada. An FIR under the NDPS Act has been filed. In addition to the seizure of illicit funds amounting to Rs 21 lakh, a currency counting apparatus, and three luxury vehicles, ongoing investigations aim to dismantle the entirety of the drug syndicate,” stated the DGP.
A senior official from the Jalandhar Police highlighted that the principal orchestrators among the apprehended individuals are situated in Jammu and Kashmir and Gujarat. “Presently, the municipal police force is conducting a comprehensive inquiry into the matter, with multiple cases already pending against the detained suspects,” noted the official.
It is discerned that the Jalandhar Police is delving into the historical and present affiliations of the suspects to ascertain their connections with local and international traffickers. This seizure represents the most substantial confiscation in the annals of Jalandhar’s law enforcement efforts.
