The ongoing protest staged by farmers at Shambhu railway station in the Ambala division of the Northern Railway continues to cause disruptions to train operations along the railway line, resulting in numerous cancellations, diversions, and short terminations. Many trains are experiencing delays of 15 to 20 hours from their scheduled departure times due to the farmers’ demonstration.
Railway authorities have reported that the persistent protest at Shambhu railway station, which has been ongoing for approximately three weeks, is directly impacting train operations. A significant portion of trains within the Ambala division is affected, causing considerable inconvenience for passengers traveling to various destinations, including Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir via Shambhu railway station. The repercussions of the farmers’ protest are being felt not only in Delhi but also in Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, and other states, according to officials. Consequently, trains operating along this route are either being canceled, diverted, or short terminated. Officials have noted that a substantial number of passengers typically travel from Delhi via this route.
Trains Not Currently Operating: A railway official stated that due to the farmers’ protest, several train services, including the Delhi–Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Express, Delhi Sarai Rohilla-Mumbai Central, Delhi-Fazilka Express, Rishikesh-Shri Ganganagar Express, New Delhi–Amritsar Express, Delhi-Pathankot Express, and New Delhi-Jalandhar Cantt Express, are currently not operational. This situation is causing significant inconvenience to passengers.
Trains Undergoing Diversions: Certain trains traveling from Delhi to Punjab and Jammu are being diverted through alternative routes due to the ongoing farmers’ protest. According to officials, trains such as the New Delhi-Jammu Tawi, New Delhi-Katra Express, and Delhi Sarai Rohilla-Jammu Tawi Express are being rerouted via the Jakhal-Dhuri-Ludhiana route. Similarly, the Delhi–Amritsar Express, New Delhi-Amritsar Shatabdi Express, and New Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express are being redirected via the Ambala Cantt–Chandigarh–Sirhind–Sahnewal rail line. Additionally, several trains within the Ambala division are being short terminated. However, trains originating from Delhi have not been subject to short termination.
