Amidst the fervent political landscape in Kolkata, a contentious debate has erupted surrounding the ‘Sandeshkhali sting video’, escalating tensions between the BJP and the TMC. The ruling party is poised to file a formal complaint with the Election Commission against BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari and associates on Thursday.
The TMC contends that the public confession of a BJP member captured on camera, disavowing the allegations of rape in the Sandeshkhali incident, lays bare the BJP’s ulterior motives. Party insiders indicate that their grievance is rooted in a video purportedly featuring an individual identifying as Gangadhar Kayal, the BJP’s regional president in Sandeshkhali, implicating Adhikari, the opposition leader in the West Bengal legislative assembly, in orchestrating the entire scheme.
In the footage, disseminated by a media outlet and subsequently shared by the TMC on unspecified social media platforms, Kayal alleges that allegations of sexual misconduct were instigated by Adhikari. Meanwhile, Sukanta Majumdar, the president of the West Bengal BJP, has cast doubt on the authenticity of the video, suggesting that it may have been generated using artificial intelligence (AI).
Majumdar further questions the timing of the video’s release, insinuating that the TMC aims to absolve their suspended member Shajahan Sheikh of any wrongdoing. He asserts, “This video was strategically unveiled by the TMC to obfuscate the truth surrounding Sandeshkhali. Why conduct a sting operation during the ongoing election season? However, the discerning populace of West Bengal will not be easily misled. They possess the political acumen to decipher the motives behind the video’s emergence.”
Over the weekend, the TMC circulated the viral video on various social media platforms, featuring an individual purporting to be the BJP’s regional president implicating opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari in the purported conspiracy. Majumdar dismissed the video as “fictitious,” suggesting the involvement of artificial intelligence (AI) in its production.
