The investigation conducted by the Delhi Police into the homicide of a senior physician in the Jangpura area of southeast Delhi has unearthed gruesome details. According to officials, Yogesh Chandra Paul, a 63-year-old medical practitioner, was subjected to brutal torture and struck on the cranium with a blunt instrument before being strangled with a tether.
The lifeless body of Yogesh Chandra Paul was discovered within his residence in Jangpura Extension on the preceding day. Authorities noted that Paul’s extremities were bound when his body was found. Surveillance footage retrieved from a nearby CCTV camera captured imagery of four potential suspects.
A law enforcement official familiar with the inquiry disclosed that one individual remained outside while the remaining trio gained entry into the domicile. Allegedly, the perpetrators assaulted Paul, muzzled him, and secured him to a chair. Subsequently, they maneuvered the chair, with Paul still restrained, to the kitchen where they administered blows to his cranium with a blunt object and asphyxiated him using a canine tether, as per the official’s account.
The assailants confined Paul’s two canine companions within the bathroom before proceeding to pilfer valuables from the residence prior to absconding. A homicide and robbery case has been formally registered by the authorities, who are exploring multiple avenues of investigation.
“We have not discounted the possibility of complicity from an individual with insider knowledge or acquaintanceship with Mr. Paul,” remarked the aforementioned official. Notably, Paul cohabited with his spouse Neena Paul, who is employed as a medical practitioner at a healthcare facility operated by the Delhi government. Neena Paul was engaged in professional duties at the time of her husband’s demise.
Their offspring are situated in disparate locales, with one residing in Canada and the other in Noida, both having entered into matrimonial unions. The incident was brought to light subsequent to Neena Paul’s return to the residence, according to law enforcement sources. Local residents attested to Paul’s esteemed reputation as a healthcare provider within the vicinity, highlighting his pro bono medical services and provision of complimentary medications to underprivileged individuals.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Rajesh Deo emphasized the existence of compelling leads and the pivotal juncture of the investigation. Intensive efforts, including raids at various locales, are underway to apprehend the implicated individuals. Furthermore, a candlelight vigil was organized by neighbors in the immediate vicinity on the day following the incident. Several residents voiced grievances regarding perceived inadequacies in police surveillance, attributing them to the tragic outcome.
