Amidst the ongoing electoral proceedings in Mumbai’s fifth phase, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, accompanied by his spouse, exercised his franchise at Activity School on Peddar Road. Six Lok Sabha constituencies in Mumbai and seven others across Maharashtra witnessed the electoral process since the early hours of 7 am.
Post-voting, Governor Das underscored the significance of electoral participation in a vibrant democracy like ours, extending appreciation to the Election Commission for orchestrating seamless elections.
Reflecting on the voting experience, Das expressed pride in being part of a mammoth electoral exercise involving 1.4 billion citizens. Commending the efficient conduct of the electoral process, he lauded the Election Commission and the dedicated officials nationwide.
In a plea to voters, Das reiterated the pride associated with voting and urged every eligible citizen to fulfill their civic duty.
Meanwhile, Union Minister and BJP candidate for Mumbai North, Piyush Goyal, exercised his franchise in Mumbai, echoing sentiments of gratitude towards the electorate for their warm reception. Business magnate Anil Ambani also participated in the electoral process at a South Mumbai polling booth.
Polling commenced for 13 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra, including six in Mumbai, marking the final phase of the state’s general elections. A vast electorate of 2.46 crore individuals is tasked with determining the fate of 264 candidates across various constituencies.
Key figures such as Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Bharati Pawar, and Kapil Patil, alongside notable personalities like lawyer Ujjwal Nikam and Shiv Sena’s Shrikant Shinde, are contesting in these elections.
Having witnessed polling across 35 constituencies in previous phases, Maharashtra gears up for the impending outcome, with vote counting slated for June 4th. Despite historical trends of urban indifference towards voting, the Election Commission has urged residents of Mumbai, Thane, and Lucknow to actively participate in the electoral process, aiming for increased voter turnout this time around.
