In Ranchi, the Bharatiya Janata Party administered a show cause notice on former Union Minister Jayant Sinha on Monday for his absence from campaigning activities subsequent to the announcement of Manish Jaiswal as the candidate for the Hazaribag Lok Sabha seat, thus tarnishing the party’s reputation.
Sinha, progeny of former union finance minister Yashwant Sinha, currently holds the Hazaribagh MP position. The notice, delivered by BJP state general secretary Aditya Sahu, pointedly addressed Sinha’s lack of involvement in organizational responsibilities and electoral campaigns since Jaiswal’s nomination. Moreover, it highlighted Sinha’s failure to exercise his voting rights, attributing adverse consequences to the party’s image due to his conduct.
Sinha’s nonattendance during the polling in Hazaribag constituency on Monday did not go unnoticed. Under the directive of state BJP president and former Jharkhand chief minister Babulal Marandi, the party has demanded a clarification from Jayant Sinha within a 48-hour window. Aditya Sahu, when questioned about potential actions, informed PTI that the decision would hinge upon Sinha’s response.
Despite attempts to reach him, Sinha remained unresponsive to calls and messages concerning the matter. Hours before Jaiswal’s selection as the candidate for Hazaribagh, Sinha had expressed his desire to disengage from electoral politics to party leadership. In a statement posted on X on March 2, the MP conveyed his intention to continue collaborating with the party on economic and governance matters, emphasizing his commitment to combatting global climate change in India and worldwide.
“I have had the honor of serving the people of India and Hazaribagh for the past decade. Furthermore, I am grateful for the numerous opportunities afforded to me by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the BJP leadership. My heartfelt appreciation to all of them. Jai Hind!” he articulated in the aforementioned post.
Hazaribag, an influential urban constituency in Jharkhand, was previously represented by Yashwant Sinha and subsequently by his offspring, Jayant Sinha. In the 2019 election, Sinha secured victory with a margin of 4.79 lakh votes, triumphing over Congress’s Gopal Sahu. Notably, Jaiswal had previously contested from the Mandu assembly seat under a JVM ticket.
