In homage to Mahatma Gandhi, Delhi’s Principal Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, visited Raj Ghat on Sunday, marking his initial stop before his impending surrender at Tihar jail later in the day.
Kejriwal’s itinerary includes a visit to the Hanuman temple in Connaught Place followed by an address to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) constituents at its headquarters on Rouse Avenue Road.
Accompanied by his spouse, Sunita Kejriwal, along with party stalwarts such as Delhi ministers Atishi, Kailash Gahlot, and Saurabh Bharadwaj, as well as Rajya Sabha MPs Sanjay Singh and Sandeep Pathak, alongside Durgesh Pathak, Rakhi Birla, and Reena Gupta, Kejriwal paid his respects at Raj Ghat, reaching the site around 3 pm.
Kejriwal, who was recently released from incarceration on interim bail sanctioned by the Supreme Court in connection to an alleged money laundering incident linked to Delhi’s excise policy, utilized the time for campaign activities during the Lok Sabha polls. The bail term concluded on June 1, coinciding with the final phase of the general elections.
Outside Raj Ghat, the Delhi BJP staged a demonstration against Kejriwal, resulting in several party members being apprehended by law enforcement personnel.
In a Hindi post on X, Kejriwal announced his intention to comply with the Supreme Court’s directive and return to Tihar. “Under the orders of the esteemed Supreme Court, I exited confinement for election-related activities for a span of 21 days. My gratitude to the revered Supreme Court,” he stated.
“Today, I shall proceed to Tihar and submit myself. Departing at 3 pm, I shall first pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat. Subsequently, I shall seek blessings from Hanuman ji at the Connaught Place temple, followed by interactions with party members and leaders at our office. Thereafter, my journey to Tihar shall commence,” affirmed the chief minister.
“Take care, all. Your well-being concerns me deeply. Your joy shall echo mine even within the confines of jail. Jai Hind,” he concluded.
