Guwahati: Assam’s inundation dilemma persists, with three additional fatalities and new territories submerged, despite a slight reduction in the affected populace, an authoritative bulletin conveyed. Rivers surged, compelling the afflicted populace to seek refuge in relief encampments across various locales, the bulletin detailed.
An Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin released on Sunday evening reported that 5,35,246 individuals in 13 districts remained beleaguered by the floods. The number of afflicted individuals was 6,01,642 across 10 districts on the previous day, Saturday.
Two casualties emerged in Cachar and one in Nagaon, elevating the toll from floods and storms since May 28 to 18. Three principal rivers, namely Kopili, Barak, and Kushiyara, continued to swell above perilous thresholds, as per the ASDMA bulletin. The district of Nagaon endured the brunt of the calamity, with 3,03,567 individuals affected, trailed by Cachar (1,09,798) and Hojai (86,382).
Over 39,000 displaced individuals sought refuge in 193 relief camps dispersed across different districts. An additional 82 relief distribution centers were also in operation.
Multiple agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local administration, spearheaded rescue and relief endeavors, while medical contingents were deployed to the affected regions. Reports of infrastructural damage, encompassing roads, bridges, and other assets, emerged from various districts.
