As many as 47 MLAs voted for JMM-led alliance, and 29 MLAs for BJP.
In the recent evaluation of the Jharkhand assembly’s floor, Chief Minister Champai Soren’s administration emerged victoriously. A total of 47 members of the legislative assembly cast their votes in favor of the JMM-led coalition, while 29 representatives supported the BJP. Furthermore, Hemant Soren, the former head of Jharkhand’s governance, who had been detained until Monday, actively participated in the floor assessment.
In an earlier address to the state assembly, Chief Minister Champai Soren of Jharkhand expressed solidarity with former Chief Minister Hemant Soren, declaring, “Today, the entire nation witnesses the injustice being inflicted upon Hemant Soren. If one were to visit any village, they would discover Hemant Soren’s initiatives in every household.” Continuing, he proudly proclaimed, “I am honored to consider myself as a continuation of Hemant Soren’s legacy.”
The state encountered a political upheaval when Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren resigned from his position as Chief Minister, subsequently being detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on January 31 in connection with a money laundering case. Following this, on February 1, Governor C P Radhakrishnan appointed Champai Soren, the state’s transport minister and a prominent JMM figure, as the Chief Minister-designate.
Earlier, the ruling JMM-led coalition had sequestered its legislators in a resort in Hyderabad to shield them from potential defection prior to the floor test. The BJP criticized this move, interpreting it as a sign of the coalition’s insecurity.
On Monday, Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh expressed confidence in the INDIA alliance’s ability to succeed in the floor test within the 81-member Jharkhand assembly. He also emphasized that the BJP’s endeavors to undermine the Congress and RJD in Bihar would be futile. Addressing the matter, Ramesh conveyed through his statement, “The INDIA coalition will secure victory in today’s confidence vote in Jharkhand, and the BJP’s attempts to disrupt the RJD and INC in Bihar will also prove unsuccessful.”
