In Gir Somnath, located in Gujarat, a significant drug bust unfolded at the Veraval port on Friday. Official sources indicate that the Gujarat Police intercepted a staggering 50 Kilograms of narcotics concealed in packets with an estimated value of Rs 350 crore. The police conducted a thorough operation at the Naliya Goli shore of Veraval port, apprehending the contraband from a fishing vessel. Notably, nine individuals, including three principal suspects, have been taken into custody in connection with this case. Ongoing investigations are being pursued, as per sources.
The collaborative success of the operation is attributed to the concerted efforts of the Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) team, as reported by officials. Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) analyses confirmed that the confiscated substance is indeed heroin.
Detailing the operation, officials conveyed, “Acting on actionable intelligence, our units conducted a raid on a fishing vessel, resulting in the recovery of 50 kg of heroin. Nine crew members aboard the Veraval-registered boat were apprehended.”
Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, shared on X, “The Gujarat Police achieved a substantial breakthrough in the war against drugs – a haul of drugs valued at Rs 350 crore. The operation unfolded with a raid on the Naliya Goli shore of Veraval port, where 50 kg of securely packaged heroin, worth Rs 350 crore, was seized and swift action was taken.”
“The joint operation, led by the SOG and NDPS team, concluded with the arrest of nine suspects, including three primary culprits. Gujarat Police’s vigilant efforts are propelling this extensive anti-drug campaign towards unprecedented success,” the post further stated.
Minister Sanghavi extended congratulations to the Gir Somnath police for their triumphant operation against the narcotics trade, expressing gratitude by saying, “Heartiest congratulations and appreciation to the Gir Somnath Police Department for their commendable campaign in eradicating the scourge of drugs.”
