In the pursuit of maintaining the pristine ambiance of the pucca ghats constructed in anticipation of Mahakumbh-2025, the Prayagraj Mela Authority has opted for a stringent approach. Individuals caught in the act of littering, spitting, or openly defecating at these sites will now face fines. Authorities also plan to erect informative signages at these locations to heighten visitor awareness.
While a dedicated workforce will be deployed to ensure the cleanliness of the ghats, the onus extends to locals and other visitors. Mahakumbh Mela Adhikari, Vijay Kiran Anand, asserts, “Beseeching everyone to preserve the sanctity of the ghats, coupled with fines as a deterrent, is our strategy.”
Having recently scrutinized the ongoing beautification efforts and transformation of these ghats into pucca structures, Anand directed officials to establish parking facilities for easier visitor access.
In an endeavor to boost tourism, recommendations include organizing daily aarti and cultural events at all ghats. A comprehensive action plan for such activities is in the pipeline.
Anand has tasked officials with devising plans for elaborate entrance gates adorned with paintings, murals, and carvings at each ghat. Adequate restroom and drinking facilities are slated for development around parking zones to enhance visitor convenience.
Additionally, towering mast lights and profile lights are set to grace the ghats, accompanied by the construction of shades to combat the intense heat and sunlight. The Dashashwamedh Ghat along the Ganga, spanning 30 meters, is poised to alleviate pressure from the primary Sangam area. The Qila Ghat along the Yamuna is undergoing conversion into a solid structure, earmarked for VIP movements visiting Sangam. Saraswati Ghat aims to augment water sports facilities from the adjacent boat club alongside the Yamuna.
