In the precincts of Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, a judicatory twist unfolded on Tuesday, pronouncing the renowned actress and former Parliamentarian, Jaya Prada, as elusive.
Two legal allegations were instituted against Jaya Prada, the erstwhile BJP contender in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, accusing her of transgressing the model code of conduct. These litigations are currently being adjudicated in the MP-MLA Special Court of Rampur.
Senior prosecuting officer, Amarnath Tiwari, affirmed that the court had dispatched summons and warrants to Jaya Prada on numerous occasions. “Jaya Prada, the thespian luminary, was conspicuously absent on no less than 12 instances. The court not only issued a warrant but escalated it to a non-bailable one. Regrettably, she remained remiss in her court appearances. The court issued non-bailable warrants against Jaya Prada seven times. The Superintendent of Police in Rampur received explicit directives to produce actress Jaya Prada in court, yet her non-compliance persisted.”
On the fateful Tuesday, the adjudicator adopted a stringent posture towards Jaya Prada’s demeanor, officially designating her as an absconder. The court, in tandem with Section 82 of the Criminal Procedure Code, took punitive measures against Jaya Prada and mandated the Rampur Superintendent of Police to orchestrate a task force led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police, with the explicit purpose of presenting the actress before the court on March 6, 2024.
The charges stemming from the infringement of the model code of conduct were filed against Jayaprada in 2019, with Camri police station and Swar police station being the epicenters of these legal entanglements.
Jaya Prada, a septuagenarian hailing from Rajamahendravaram, has etched her legacy in Telugu and Hindi cinematic realms. Some of her notable cinematic oeuvres include Sharaabi, Aaj Ka Arjun, Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani, Maa, Tohfa, Ganga Jamuna Saraswati, Aakhree Raasta, and Siri Siri Muvva.
The luminary, who traversed political landscapes by affiliating with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) before making a transition to the BJP, now finds herself entangled in the intricate threads of legal scrutiny.
