In an assertive move, municipal authorities took decisive action, ordering the closure of 26 establishments specializing in the trade of meat within a two-kilometer proximity to the revered Kashi Vishwanath temple on the recent Friday.
This stringent measure materialized subsequent to the unanimous approval of a prohibition proposal by the Varanasi Nagar Nigam House on January 19, as attested by Varanasi’s Mayor, Ashok Tiwari. The resolution is poised to undergo scrutiny from the state government for final validation.
A formal notification, meticulously served by an official team under the stewardship of Dr. Ajai Pratap Singh, an officer vested in the realms of animal welfare and veterinary matters, unequivocally declared the 26 identified establishments as unlawful entities. Consequently, these establishments find themselves compelled to cease all operations forthwith. These prohibited establishments were strategically positioned in localities such as Beniyabagh, Nai Sadak, Sheikh Saleem Phatak, and sundry other regions.
The catalyst behind this sweeping prohibition initiative was the recommendation put forth by Indresh Singh, the Adi Vishweshwar ward corporator, during the deliberations within the House.
The precincts earmarked for the enforcement of this comprehensive prohibition encompass Beniyabagh, Dalmandi, segments of Laksa, Ramapura, Dashashwamedh, Maidagin, sections of Dara Nagar, Vishweshwarganj, Hartirath, among other designated areas.
