In the Varanasi district court, a formal request has been submitted, urging the defendants, which include the state of Uttar Pradesh and the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee (AIMC) responsible for overseeing the Gyanvapi Mosque and two other entities, to eliminate the designated shoe repositories situated within the Gyanvapi complex.
The petitioner in this matter is Kiran Singh, the representative for Bhagwan Adi Vishweshwar Virajman and others versus the state of Uttar Pradesh and additional parties. Singh articulated her petition through legal representatives Man Bahadur Singh and Anupam Dwivedi.
Dwivedi conveyed, “The court has slated March 19 as the scheduled hearing date.” AIMC’s Joint Secretary, S.M. Yasin, remarked that their legal team intends to submit a counterargument against this application. On the preceding Friday, AIMC members strategically positioned six receptacles for footwear within the enclosed perimeter surrounding the Gyanvapi mosque, distinctly situated beyond its entrance.
