Amidst the political landscape in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, a day subsequent to the BJP designating Barabanki MP Upendra Singh Rawat as its candidate for the same seat, an ostensibly “fabricated” explicit video of him emerged on various social media platforms on Sunday, as reported by law enforcement. Following a complaint filed by the MP’s personal secretary, Dinesh Chandra Rawat, an FIR has been formally registered against an unidentified perpetrator, conveyed the Kotwali police station in-charge, Aditya Tripathi.
The FIR alleges that certain individuals have publicly disseminated a manipulated and objectionable video featuring the MP, with the intention of tarnishing his reputation post his BJP candidacy announcement. Sources within the police department indicate that the circulated video portrays a man in an objectionable scenario with a woman, purportedly identified as Upendra Singh Rawat.
The MP asserted that upon securing the party’s nomination from Barabanki, adversaries orchestrated this act, contending that the video is entirely manipulated. Expressing optimism, he anticipates the swift identification of the accused. During the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP opted not to field the then incumbent MP, Priyanka Singh Rawat, choosing Upendra Singh Rawat as their candidate instead.
