Amidst the political labyrinth, BJP luminary JP Nadda relinquished his position in the Rajya Sabha, a representation of Himachal Pradesh. Intriguingly, he will persist as a Rajya Sabha MP hailing from Gujarat. Jagdeep Dhankhar, the Chairman of Rajya Sabha, accorded his nod to Nadda’s withdrawal from the Himachal seat. Per the Rajya Sabha parliamentary bulletin, “Jagat Prakash Nadda, a duly elected Member of the Council of States (Rajya Sabha), representing the State of Himachal Pradesh, tendered his resignation from the Rajya Sabha. The Chairman, Rajya Sabha, ratified this resignation, effective March 4, 2024.” This verdict transpired subsequent to Nadda’s uncontested ascension to the upper echelons from Gujarat the previous month. His tenure in Himachal Pradesh was initially slated to culminate in April 2024.
Despite the renouncement of his Himachal position, Nadda persists in his capacity as a Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat. He constitutes one among the 57 Rajya Sabha members whose mandates were slated for conclusion in April. In the recent electoral maneuvers, four BJP parliamentarians from Gujarat clinched victories in the Rajya Sabha. This cadre encompasses the party’s helmsman, JP Nadda, along with Jaswant Singh Parmar, Mayank Nayak, and Govindbhai Dholakia.
Pioneering the electoral race, the BJP, on a momentous Saturday, unveiled its inaugural roster featuring 195 contenders for the impending Lok Sabha polls. This compendium embraces 47 candidates epitomizing youthful vigor, 28 distinguished women candidates, 27 countenances from the Scheduled Caste (SC) stratum, 18 representatives from the Scheduled Tribes (ST), and 57 nominees hailing from the OBC/Backward Class cohort.
