In a revelation made on Friday, the Congress party unveiled its preliminary roster of 39 contenders for the imminent Lok Sabha elections, spanning across regions like Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Telangana, and Tripura. Within the disclosed 39 candidates, 15 originate from the general caste, while the remaining 24 hail from SC/ST/minority backgrounds.
Post the revelation of these contenders, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal shared with the press, “Our paramount objective is securing the maximum Lok Sabha seats to overcome PM Modi in the forthcoming elections. We are steadfast in our pursuit to amass the highest number of parliamentary seats for the Congress party.”
The nomenclature of the Lok Sabha election candidates took final shape during the Congress party’s Central Election Committee congregation in New Delhi on Thursday. Attending the meeting were Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former party chief Sonia Gandhi, and General Secretary KC Venugopal. Notably, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi participated via the virtual medium, Zoom.
The anticipation surrounding Rahul Gandhi’s potential candidacy for a secondary seat from Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi lingers. The Congress party has affirmed that discussions concerning candidates in the remaining states will unfold in forthcoming meetings.
The second meeting of the Election Committee is slated for March 11, during which the Congress will deliberate on the candidates’ names for the remaining states in the imminent Lok Sabha polls.
