In the realm of Islamic organizations, a select few, notably the Delhi Hajj Committee and the All India Muslim Jamaat, extended their embrace to the execution of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) 2019 orchestrated by the Union Home Ministry on the day of the week.
Offering her perspective on this significant development, Kausar Jahan, Chairman of the Delhi Haj Committee, underscored that the CAA is intricately woven to confer citizenship rather than dismantle it, spotlighting its paramount role in affording a dignified existence to non-Muslims residing in contiguous nations such as Pakistan and Bangladesh.
“I extend a cordial welcome to this transformative legislation. This is an enactment geared towards bestowing citizenship rather than rescinding it. The plight of non-Muslims in our neighboring nations like Pakistan and Bangladesh is indeed distressing. If the government aspires to endow them with a life of honor and respect, what stands as an impediment? The Muslim community need not harbor any trepidation in this regard; there exists no imperative to be seized by panic…,” Jahan articulated.
In consonance with the CAA notification, Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi, President of the All India Muslim Jamaat, articulated, “The Government of India has officially implemented the CAA legislation. I extend my felicitations to this enactment. It is regrettable that this was not enacted much earlier.”
“There exists a plethora of misconceptions among the Muslim populace concerning this legislation. It is pivotal to recognize that this legislation holds no pertinence to Muslims. Formerly, there was an absence of legislation to accord citizenship to non-Muslims hailing from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, who encountered persecution grounded in religious disparity. Hence, this legislation has been instituted. The multitudes of Indian Muslims shall remain unaffected by this legislation in its entirety,” Bareilvi elucidated further.
“This legislation does not wield the potential to divest any Muslim of their citizenship… In the bygone years, protests ensued, predominantly fueled by misconstrued notions. Certain political entities sowed the seeds of confusion amongst the Muslim populace… Each Muslim residing in India should extend a warm embrace to the CAA,” Bareilvi appended.
