Amidst the political landscape of New Delhi, the forthcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections stand as a pivotal moment for the trajectory of India’s secular democracy. D Raja, General Secretary of the Communist Party of India, underscored the urgency of thwarting the BJP to safeguard the constitutional framework and the essence of democracy.
In a candid dialogue with PTI, Raja downplayed the notion that the consecration of the Ram temple would wield a definitive influence on the impending general elections. He asserted a discrepancy between the BJP’s interpretation of ‘Ram’ and the populace’s perception of the revered figure.
Furthermore, he rebuffed the BJP’s “Modi ki Guarantee” slogan as a mere electoral ploy, categorizing it as hollow rhetoric. Raja criticized Prime Minister Modi for his failure to deliver on promises pertaining to employment generation, curbing illicit financial activities, and mitigating inflationary pressures.
Emphasizing the gravity of the 2024 elections, Raja lamented over the tumultuous governance of the past decade. He lamented the erosion of democratic norms, portraying Parliament’s diminished efficacy as an alarming development. The suspension of over 140 Members of Parliament during the preceding winter session was decried as an unprecedented assault on parliamentary democracy.
