In Guwahati, Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister, disclosed the identity of Rahul Gandhi’s purported ‘doppelgänger’ witnessed during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in the state.
Addressing the press in Guwahati, Sarma asserted that the alleged ‘doppelgänger’ of Rahul Gandhi goes by the surname ‘Kurukshetra’ and hails from Madhya Pradesh. The Chief Minister elaborated that this individual accompanied Rahul Gandhi from Manipur to Nagaon in Assam. According to Sarma, the exposure of this individual was facilitated by a news agency, prompting their departure from Assam to Delhi and then Madhya Pradesh.
Sarma raised queries concerning why this individual was not presented to the media if indeed they were merely a look-alike and not a body double. Additionally, he questioned the lack of media coverage surrounding the departure of this individual from Assam.
Asserting that he possesses all the necessary details to substantiate his claims against the Congress leader, Sarma informed journalists that he intends to divulge these details, including phone records from the BJP office, imminently.
In a previous statement in January, the Chief Minister had alleged that a “body double” was employed by the Congress leader during the Yatra. Citing a news report, he indicated that the individual seen sitting and waving from the Yatra bus was “likely not Rahul Gandhi at all.” When pressed by reporters regarding the accusation against Gandhi, Sarma affirmed, “I don’t make baseless assertions. I will furnish all pertinent details concerning the duplicate’s identity and modus operandi. Kindly await further disclosures.”
