In a startling occurrence, a female medical student pursuing paramedical studies at Saifai Medical College in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, fell victim to a heinous act of murder perpetrated by a spurned suitor. According to sources within the police department, the perpetrator callously discarded her lifeless body by the roadside on Thursday, March 14. Law enforcement authorities have swiftly apprehended the primary suspect and have initiated legal proceedings against three individuals based on a formal complaint filed by the victim’s bereaved mother. Furthermore, the vehicle implicated in the crime has been seized and is currently under police custody.
The grim discovery unfolded on Thursday when the blood-stained remains of the victim, enrolled in the ANM program at Saifai Medical College, were found abandoned near the Sonai river bridge, approximately 10 kilometers distant from the educational institution.
An official statement from the police revealed that around 8 pm on Thursday, the Vaidpura police station received a distressing report regarding the discovery of a female cadaver lying by the roadside near the Sonai river bridge. Subsequently, Superintendent of Police Samit Kumar promptly dispatched law enforcement personnel to the scene. The deceased was identified as a student hailing from Kudarkot, Auraiya.
A comprehensive investigation by the police unveiled that the victim met her untimely demise at the hands of her former romantic partner, identified as Mahendra, residing in close proximity to the victim’s residence. Additionally, a second suspect, named Arvind, has been implicated in the crime. Preliminary findings suggest that Mahendra’s actions stemmed from unrequited affection. The vehicle employed in the commission of the crime has been recovered, while efforts to locate the remaining two suspects are currently underway.
Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Verma disclosed that the victim bore a grievous wound to her neck, indicative of a violent assault with a sharp object or firearm. Although awaiting the results of the post-mortem examination, law enforcement agencies continue to diligently pursue leads in their ongoing investigation. “We are scrutinizing nearby CCTV footage. Given the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body, foul play appears evident,” remarked SSP Verma.
In a show of solidarity and protest, students from the medical college staged a vociferous demonstration on Thursday night, demanding justice for their fallen peer and swift action against the perpetrators. Amidst chants and commotion outside the Trauma Center, they voiced their grievances against the local administration.
Interrogations conducted by the police revealed that the victim had fulfilled her duties at the Outpatient Department (OPD) until 1 PM after commencing her shift at 8 AM. Concerned by her absence from subsequent classes scheduled to commence at 2 PM, Warden Neelam Shah notified the victim’s family.
Meanwhile, Akhilesh Yadav, leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP), launched a scathing critique against the BJP-led government helmed by Yogi Adityanath in the wake of the tragic incident. Taking to the social media platform X, Yadav asserted, “The suspicious demise of a student at Saifai University is deeply troubling. It underscores the failure of the purported zero-tolerance stance on crime, particularly under the BJP’s regime in Uttar Pradesh. A thorough judicial inquiry is imperative to expose the truth behind such incidents, akin to those witnessed at BHU and Saifai University. The government must not be allowed to shield perpetrators, regardless of its inclinations. The BJP government fails to uphold the dignity and safety of women.”
