In a pioneering move, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is gearing up to establish polling stations within high-rise buildings and gated communities across Uttar Pradesh for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Navdeep Rinwa, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Uttar Pradesh, disclosed, “Our state boasts the highest count of polling stations nestled within high-rise apartments and gated colonies nationwide. A total of 217 such locations have been pinpointed, with Dadri leading at 68, followed closely by Noida with 67, Sahibabad with 37, Muradnagar with 8, and seven each in Loni, Ghaziabad, and Bakshi-Ka-Talab.”
Elaborating further, the CEO remarked, “An impressive 82,000 polling stations will be equipped with live webcasting facilities. Additionally, meticulous arrangements have been made to ensure that all polling stations are conveniently situated on the ground level. Facilities such as wheelchairs, ramps for disabled voters, restrooms, adequate lighting, potable water, assistance desks, volunteers, and clear signage have been diligently provided to ensure a seamless voting experience.”
“Our objective is to establish polling stations within a 2-kilometer radius of every voter, minimizing travel inconvenience,” he emphasized.
