In Jodhpur, located in the state of Rajasthan, the Rajasthan High Court made a decision on Wednesday to dismiss the appeal made by the self-proclaimed spiritual leader, Asaram Bapu, who is currently serving a life sentence for a crime of sexual assault. Asaram Bapu had sought permission to receive medical care at the Madhavbagh Multidisciplinary Cardiac Care Clinic in Maharashtra.
The presentation of the report occurred during the court session on Wednesday, conducted by the Raigad Superintendent of Police. The division bench consisting of Justice Dinesh Mehta and Justice Vineet Kumar Mathur presided over Asaram’s appeal.
During the previous hearing, Asaram had made a request to the High Court for medical treatment at the Madhavbagh Multidisciplinary Cardiac Care Clinic. Consequently, an assessment of security risks was requested from both the Maharashtra Police and the Jodhpur Police Commissioner.
The Raigad Superintendent of Police, expressing concerns regarding security, strongly recommended that Asaram not be granted permission for the requested treatment. The presentation of the Maharashtra Police report in court was facilitated by Additional Advocate General Anil Joshi.
Upon the submission of the report, the High Court dismissed Asaram’s plea to seek treatment in Maharashtra. Asaram’s legal representatives conveyed his desire for Ayurvedic treatment.
The High Court has mandated the submission of a medical report from the Ayurvedic Hospital Karwad in Jodhpur by Thursday. Further proceedings regarding the case will be conducted subsequent to the receipt of this medical report.
Asaram, currently incarcerated for offenses related to sexual misconduct, had also submitted a petition to the Supreme Court regarding his medical treatment. However, no interim relief was granted by the apex court.
