Doha: Hamad International Airport (HIA) in Doha has seized the prestigious title of the world’s top aviation hub at the annual Skytrax Awards, surpassing the former dominant titleholder, Singapore’s Changi Airport.
HIA also secured accolades for ‘world’s premier airport shopping’ for the second consecutive time, along with the ‘finest airport in the Middle East’ for an impressive tenth straight year.
Hamad International has established a storied legacy of triumph, with previous victories in this domain, its latest being in 2022. CEO Badr Mohammed Al Meer expressed profound satisfaction with the timing of this year’s accolade, coinciding with the airport’s significant 10-year operational milestone.
“This year, HIA commemorates a decade of operations, and we are truly humbled to receive the honor of being named the world’s best airport for the third time,” commented Al Meer.
“Skytrax’s esteemed recognition is a testament to our dedicated workforce who continually strive to uphold and advance our preeminent status,” he added. Hot on the heels of Singapore’s Changi Airport, Seoul Incheon Airport claimed third place, while Tokyo’s Haneda and Narita airports took fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
In the realm of New Zealand’s airfields, Auckland emerged as the lone representative in the top 100 rankings, advancing to 45th place from its previous 51st position. It also secured the fifth position in the category for Best Airports servicing 5 to 10 million passengers.
