The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has officially commenced the application process for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2024, which can be accessed on its website at consortiumofnlus.ac.in. Aspiring candidates eager to embark on a legal career can submit their applications until the looming deadline of November 3, 2023. This year, applicants are also required to specify their preferred NLUs, where they aspire to gain admission. The highly anticipated CLAT 2024 examination, managed by the Consortium of NLUs, is scheduled for December 3, 2023, with the test taking place between 2 PM and 4 PM.

CLAT 2024: What’s New?

The CLAT 2024 edition is bringing about notable changes in its format. The alterations include a revised syllabus and question pattern that test-takers should be aware of. In a significant shift, this year’s examination will require candidates to tackle 120 questions within a strict two-hour timeframe. This marks a departure from the previous format which had 150 questions to answer.

For the Undergraduate (UG) CLAT 2024, candidates will encounter five distinct sections: English language, current affairs and general knowledge, legal reasoning, logical reasoning, and quantitative techniques. The first four sections will feature lengthy passages of around 450 words each, followed by multiple-choice questions for candidates to answer. As for the quantitative techniques section, it will present sets of facts or propositions, each accompanied by corresponding multiple-choice questions.

The Postgraduate (PG) CLAT 2024, on the other hand, will feature 120 questions spanning various subjects. These include constitutional law, jurisprudence, law of contract, administrative law, torts, family law, criminal law, property law, company law, public international law, tax law, environmental law, and labor and industrial law. The scoring system for the CLAT 2024 is straightforward: each correct answer will earn candidates one mark, while any incorrect responses will lead to a deduction of 0.25 marks.

CLAT 2024 Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the UG CLAT 2024, candidates are required to have secured a minimum of 45% in their Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognized board. However, for candidates belonging to the SC and ST categories, there is a 5% relaxation in the minimum qualifying marks. Students who are currently in the process of appearing for their Class 12 examinations are also eligible to apply, provided they produce their passing certificate during the counseling process.

For those interested in the PG CLAT 2024, an LLB degree with a minimum of 50% marks or an equivalent grade is mandatory. Similar to the UG CLAT, there is a 5% relaxation in the minimum qualifying marks for candidates in the General, SC, and ST categories. Importantly, there is no upper age limit for either examination, allowing a diverse range of applicants to pursue their legal aspirations.

The CLAT 2024 presents an opportunity for aspiring lawyers to embark on their journey towards a rewarding legal career. With the revised format and eligibility criteria, candidates are encouraged to prepare diligently and seize the chance to join prestigious NLUs across the country. Don’t miss this crucial deadline for application submission on November 3, 2023, and ensure you are well-prepared to excel in the upcoming CLAT 2024 examination on December 3, 2023.
