Tragedy struck in Kozhikode early Tuesday morning as a 58-year-old woman lost her life in a horrific accident. The unfortunate incident occurred when the ambulance transporting her to a private hospital collided with an electric pole, resulting in a blaze that claimed her life.
The dreadful mishap unfolded on the Kozhikode mini bypass, close to Aster Mims Hospital, at approximately 3:50 am. The victim, identified as Sulochana, hailing from Nadapuram, was en route from Malabar Medical College to Aster Mims Hospital for an urgent surgical procedure.
Although six individuals accompanying her managed to escape with minor injuries, Sulochana remained trapped inside the vehicle and succumbed to the flames.
According to authorities, the ambulance, carrying the patient, driver, doctor, nurse, and three others, veered off course, striking an electric pole before colliding with a nearby building and igniting into flames.
“Despite efforts, we were unable to rescue the patient as the fire rapidly engulfed the ambulance. The injured parties have been admitted to the hospital, and the victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination,” stated a local police officer.
Following the distressing event, local residents promptly alerted the Meenchantha fire brigade, who swiftly arrived and extinguished the inferno. Good Samaritans from the area aided in transporting the injured to the nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving medical care at Aster Mims Hospital.
