In East Medinipur, a tragic incident unfolded as a quartet met their demise following a head-on collision between their vehicle and a bus in West Bengal’s precincts. The grim episode occurred on Thursday, as relayed by an officer of the law.
The group, on a tourism excursion bound for Digha, encountered calamity when their vehicle collided with a Kolkata-bound bus traversing National Highway 116-B near Daisai bus station in the Marishda locality. The vehicular impact wrought severe damage, necessitating the employment of gas cutters to extricate the unfortunate occupants. Despite prompt transportation to the nearby medical facility, all four were pronounced deceased upon arrival.
As per police sources, the vehicle bore registration plates indicating its origin from the Nadia district. Investigations into the matter are currently underway, as confirmed by a law enforcement official.
Expressing profound sorrow over the tragic occurrence, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took to her designated social media platform, expressing condolences and assuring support for the bereaved families. Addressing the incident, Banerjee conveyed, “Taken aback by the lamentable news of the demise of four individuals in a vehicular mishap in Marishda, East Midnapore this morning. I extend heartfelt sympathies to the families, acquaintances, and associates of the deceased. The aftermath of the accident precipitated significant traffic disruptions along the national thoroughfare, with vehicles lining up on either side for prolonged intervals. Ultimately, the disabled vehicle was removed, thereby restoring traffic flow.
