Shaitaan, the supernatural thriller featuring Ajay Devgn, Jyotika, and R Madhavan, has exhibited noteworthy prowess at the Indian box office since its premiere on March 8. As per the industry tracker Sacnilk, the movie has amassed an impressive Rs 53 crore nett in India over its inaugural weekend.
Unpacking the figures, Shaitaan embarked on its cinematic journey with a substantial Rs 14.75 crore nett in India on Friday, experiencing a surge to Rs 18.75 crore on Saturday. By Sunday, the film’s revenue had escalated to approximately Rs 20 crore. On the final day of the weekend, Shaitaan boasted a robust 36.24 percent Hindi occupancy.
In the narrative, Madhavan assumes the role of a character who infiltrates the vacation retreat of Ajay and Jyotika’s characters while they are holidaying. He ensnares their daughter in the clutches of a black magic enchantment, gaining dominion over her. The central theme of the film revolves around Ajay’s quest to liberate his daughter from this perilous predicament.
Jyotika portrays the character of a mother to actor Janki Bodiwala in Shaitaan. Reflecting on her depiction of motherhood both on-screen and in real life, Jyotika previously shared that the film delves into diverse facets of maternal responsibility. “Numerous sequences in the film evoke the essence of motherhood, and I am hesitant to disclose them. However, one of them played a pivotal role in my decision to commit to this film. Throughout, the film consistently underscores the gravity of being responsible for a teenage daughter and underscores the roles that mothers and fathers play in safeguarding their offspring.”
Vikas Bahl directed this horror spectacle, presented by Jio Studios, Devgn Films, and Panorama Studios, and produced by Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, Kumar Mangat Pathak, and Abhishek Pathak. Shaitaan stands as a Hindi reinterpretation of the 2023 Gujarati horror film Vash, originally penned and directed by Krishnadev Yagnik.
