Renowned vocalist Diljit Dosanjh is poised to captivate the audience with his commanding portrayal in Imtiaz Ali’s forthcoming production, Amar Singh Chamkila. Discussing the cinematic venture during an interview with YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, Diljit Dosanjh openly reflected on his experience enacting the demise of Punjabi folk luminary Chamkila for Imtiaz Ali’s directorial endeavor. In a footage shared by Ranveer on social media, Diljit fondly recollects his participation in a sequence for the impending feature.
When probed about sensing Chamkila’s ethereal presence onset, Diljit affirmed, “Without a doubt, I could perceive it.” He proceeded to elaborate on his involvement in depicting Chamkila’s tragic demise. “We filmed precisely at the location where Chamkila met his end. ‘We shot at the very site where Chamkila was felled.'”
According to the narrative, Diljit, wielding a tumbi, stumbled during filming at the exact spot where Chamkila had succumbed to gunfire. Upon noticing blood on his hand from one of the tumbi strings brushing against his fingers during the fall, he deduced that this must have been where Chamkila’s lifeblood was shed. For the unacquainted, in 1988, unidentified assailants assassinated Chamkila and his spouse, vocalist Amarjyot. The investigation remains ongoing, and the motive behind their slayings remains elusive.
The podcast delves into Diljit’s personal odyssey, tracing back to his formative years, and is accessible via Ranveer’s YouTube channel. The crooner behind “Naina” delves into the solitude he experienced after being entrusted to the care of his uncle in the city by his parents. The 40-year-old minstrel also underscores the profound influence of Punjabi culture on both his life and his musical endeavors in the video. Furthermore, he expounds on how yoga has reshaped his perception of the world.
Turning to the cinematic endeavor, Parineeti Chopra is set to grace Amar Singh Chamkila as Amarjot, the esteemed vocalist’s consort and artistic collaborator alongside Diljit in the eponymous role. The film’s musical score was helmed by A.R. Rahman, and it is slated to premiere on Netflix on April 12.
