The cinematic rivalry between Bollywood heavyweights Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Maidaan came to fruition at the box office on April 11, coinciding with the festival of Eid. Despite the holiday release, the anticipated films saw only a moderate reception in theaters. Let’s delve into the earnings of Akshay and Ajay’s films on the third day of release.
Akshay Kumar’s action-packed feature has shown steady performance despite the competition. Bade Miyan Chote Miyan amassed a gross of Rs 15.65 crore net on its debut across Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada languages. Out of this, Rs 15.5 crore was garnered from the Hindi version alone. The film faced a sharp decline on the second day, earning just half of its opening day collection, with Rs 7.6 crore.
As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film showed a slight resurgence on Saturday, bringing in an estimated Rs 8.5 crore net on the third day in India. This cumulative sum brought Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’s three-day Indian net collection to around Rs 31.75 crore, according to the portal. Apart from Akshay and Tiger Shroff, the movie features prominent roles played by Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manushi Chhillar, Alaya F, and Sonakshi Sinha under the direction of Ali Abbas Zafar.
The film’s production was handled by Jackky Bhagnani, Vashu Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, and Himanshu Kishan Mehra. Key performances include Prithviraj Sukumaran as Kabir, Manushi Chhillar as Captain Misha, Alaya F as IT specialist Pam, and Akshay Kumar as Firoz. Manish Chaudhari and Ronit Bose Roy also play notable roles.
Conversely, Maidaan, starring Ajay Devgn, exhibited a substantial increase in its box office earnings by 80% on its third day of release. Nevertheless, even with this growth, the overall takings for the film remain below expectations. As reported by Sacnilk’s early projections, Maidaan is poised to earn an estimated Rs 5.50–6 crore net on Saturday.
Given its underwhelming initial three days, with Rs 2.6 crore from Wednesday’s paid previews, Rs 4.5 crore on Thursday, Rs 3 crore on Friday, and a peak of Rs 5.5 crore on Saturday, Maidaan surpassed the Rs 15 crore mark. For sustained success, the film must achieve higher numbers in the forthcoming days. Fortunately, with no imminent competition, the upcoming period holds potential for the film’s resurgence.
Directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, Maidaan tells a stirring tale of Syed Abdul Rahim’s unwavering passion for football. Supported by a robust ensemble cast including Rudranil Ghosh, Priyamani, and Gajraj Rao, Ajay Devgn takes on the role of Rahim. Though the sports biopic received acclaim from critics, it struggled to draw audiences amid its face-off with Akshay Kumar’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.
