The portrayal of a detective role in Homi Adajania’s Murder Mubarak brought a sense of revitalization to Pankaj Tripathi, offering a storyline that promises to captivate its viewers. Scheduled for release on Netflix this Friday, the plot revolves around a law enforcement officer delving into the intricacies of a homicide case within an upscale establishment in Delhi. Tripathi embodies the character of Bhavani Singh, a diligent investigator hot on the trail of the perpetrator.

“I found portraying a law enforcement officer in this enthralling and immersive film to be quite invigorating. It promises to be an enjoyable experience for the audience. The narrative unfolds in a world filled with eccentricities, ensuring that the identity of the perpetrator doesn’t weigh heavily on the viewer’s mind. It’s distinctly characteristic of Homi Adajania’s cinematic universe,” expressed the National Award-winning actor in an interaction with PTI.

Helmed by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, the movie draws inspiration from Anuja Chauhan’s 2013 novel “Club You To Death”. Gazal Dhaliwal and Suprotim Sengupta have adeptly adapted the book for the silver screen. Murder Mubarak boasts a star-studded ensemble including Sara Ali Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia, Vijay Varma, Sanjay Kapoor, Tisca Chopra, Suhail Nayyar, and Aashim Gulati.

Tripathi reminisced about his brief stint in Angrezi Medium, Adajania’s collaboration with Irrfan Khan, describing the experience as immensely gratifying, which promptly led him to embrace his role in the upcoming film. “Two key elements drew me to this project: director Homi Adajania and the screenplay. When Dinesh Vijan secured the rights to the book, he expressed his desire for me to portray a detective. My wife always believed that I would excel in such roles,” he disclosed.

Elaborating further, Tripathi delineated his character, Bhavani Singh, as not merely a detective but someone who strives to embody the archetype. “He attempts to emulate the persona of a detective, only to eventually rely on his innate instincts. It’s a delicate balance,” he added.

When quizzed about his sources of inspiration for the role, Tripathi cited his exposure to the classic detective series Karamchand, featuring the esteemed Pankaj Kapur, which aired on Doordarshan. He also acknowledged the influence of detective literature in shaping his understanding of character dynamics. “Growing up, I had limited exposure to cinema and television, but I managed to catch glimpses of Karamchand. Additionally, my immersion in detective fiction has helped me envisage characters independently. This is the beauty of literature; it stimulates the imagination without imposing visuals,” remarked the actor.

Tripathi’s upcoming projects include Stree 2, Metro… In Dino, and the Prime Video series Gulkanda Tales.
