In a legal tangle concerning actor Kareena Kapoor Khan, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has sprung into action. The crux of the matter lies in her pregnancy-themed book, titled with the contentious word ‘Bible’. Jabalpur resident Christopher Anthony has raised objections through a petition, setting off a legal cascade with the court summoning Kareena Kapoor for her response.
Presided over by Justice Gurpal Singh Ahluwalia, the court issued the notice following an appeal by advocate Christopher Anthony. The petitioner alleges that the use of ‘Bible’ by Kareena Kapoor has sparked offense within the Christian community.
Dated May 9, the court’s notice mandates Kareena Kapoor Khan’s response within a designated timeframe, accompanied by a processing fee payable via RAD mode within seven working days.
The petitioner advocates for an FIR against Kareena Kapoor Khan, alleging her book title, “Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Pregnancy Bible”, has insulted the Christian community.
Beyond Khan herself, the plea implicates Amazon Online Shopping, Juggernaut Books, and the book’s co-author.
Originally, Anthony lodged a complaint with the local police in Jabalpur, asserting that Khan’s actions had wounded Christian sentiments by associating the ‘holy book Bible’ with her pregnancy journey.
However, met with police reluctance to file a case, the advocate pursued legal recourse by submitting a private complaint before a Magistrate court, seeking similar redress.
The Magistrate dismissed the plea, citing the complainant’s failure to substantiate how the term ‘Bible’ caused offense to the Christian community. Consequently, Anthony escalated the matter to the Additional Sessions Court, met with a similar denial of relief, prompting the subsequent appeal before the High Court.
