On Thursday, the actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi declared his disinterest in ascending to the position of Union minister, emphasizing that his sole ambition is to see the ministries actualize the projects he proposes for the benefit of Kerala’s populace. Gopi, who marked a momentous victory for the BJP in Kerala by securing the Thrissur Lok Sabha seat, implored that he not be restricted to a ministerial role, asserting that he can achieve more for the people as a Member of Parliament than as a minister.
“Do not imprison me within four walls. As an MP, I can execute the tasks of multiple ministries. I do not desire a ministerial post. There can be innovative, revolutionary platforms for work. My only wish is that when I present a project for the people of Kerala with unwavering resolve, the concerned ministries should implement it,” he articulated in response to a reporter’s inquiry about his preferred ministerial position.
Gopi further elucidated that his responsibilities as an MP would not be limited to Thrissur alone, despite his electoral victory there. He pledged to serve as an MP for the entirety of Kerala and the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu as well. Speaking about the Thrissur Pooram festival, he proclaimed that there would be “a new narrative and a new script” for orchestrating the renowned temple festival.
This statement was made in reference to the purported restrictions imposed by the police and their alleged meddling in the rituals during this year’s Thrissur Pooram.
The BJP leader’s triumph in Thrissur was a significant blow to the ruling CPI(M)-led LDF and the Congress-headed UDF, both of which had dismissed the exit polls forecasting Gopi’s victory and the potential for the BJP’s lotus to bloom in the state until the very last moment.
