South Indian artist Varalaxmi Sarathkumar recently commemorated a pivotal juncture in her life by formalizing her engagement to her longstanding partner, art dealer Nicholai Sachdev. While numerous denizens of social media extended their felicitations to the duo, certain individuals endeavored to mock the actress by insinuating that she might assume the role of Sachdev’s secondary spouse. Additionally, rumors circulated regarding Sachdev’s purported progeny.
Amidst these conjectures, Varalaxmi took to Instagram to disseminate a message, drawing from the wisdom of Gloria Steinem: “Contemplate not conforming women to society’s standards—rather, consider altering society to accommodate women.” Varalaxmi further expressed her admiration for women who forge their own paths and urged them to disregard external judgments while embracing life with fervor.
Concluding her post with the assertion “DISREGARD ANY CRITICISM.. they will not support you .. YOU must support yourself.. thus, commence living .. Honored to be a Lady.. each day constitutes a celebration of womanhood..,” Varalaxmi shared a compilation video portraying herself adorned in a resplendent ivory and gold silk saree, set to the tune of Vaayadi Petha Pulla performed by Aaradhana SivaKarthikeyan, Sivakarthikeyan, and Vaikom Vijayalakshmi, with musical arrangements orchestrated by Dhibu Ninan Thomas.
Varalaxmi further regaled her Instagram followers with an array of photographs featuring herself and Sachdev. The actress appeared resplendent in a vibrant magenta blouse embellished with gilded motifs, complemented by a striking diamond necklace and earrings. Meanwhile, her betrothed, Sachdev, donned a harmoniously coordinated traditional ensemble. In one of the snapshots, the couple can be observed adorned with floral garlands, radiantly posing alongside their dear ones, all attired in matching garb.
According to reports, the couple has maintained communication for the past fourteen years. Varalaxmi rose to prominence with her portrayal in the 2012 cinematic venture Podaa Podi and most recently graced the screen in Prasanth Varma’s Hanu Man alongside Teja Sajja, Amritha Aiyer, Vinay Rai, Deepak Raj Shetty, and other prominent figures.
