In the realm of Chandigarh, it is underscored that the Modi administration possesses a comprehensive awareness of the predicaments faced by farmers. Punjab BJP head, Sunil Jakhar, articulated on Saturday that the ongoing dialogues between farmer leaders and the Central government are poised to yield an “effective” redressal.

Expressing certainty that the demands and issues articulated by the farming community are of a profoundly serious nature, Jakhar emphasized the imperative for resolution through comprehension and dialogue. He asserted that the authentic essence of contemporary agricultural challenges is best understood by those tilling the soil. Jakhar reiterated the significance of farmers as a formidable pillar in the national growth trajectory under the Modi-led NDA government. According to him, there should be no room for doubt regarding the concerns of farmers, stressing the necessity to ensure the providers of our sustenance receive everything essential for enhancing agricultural remuneration.

The pride of our nation lies in the respect accorded to our farmers, and their sacrifices in ensuring food security during a critical juncture are acknowledged nationwide. Jakhar urged refraining from trivializing debates on issues faced by food providers and cautioned against potential exploitation of innocent farmers for petty political gains by vested interests.

The Delhi Chalo’ agitation, led by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, aims to exert pressure on the Centre for their demands, including a legal guarantee for minimum support prices, crop-specific laws, and debt waivers. The march from Punjab to Delhi, initiated on Tuesday, was halted by security personnel at Shambhu and Khanauri points on Punjab’s border with Haryana, where protesters have steadfastly remained. The farmers’ demands extend beyond MSP, encompassing the implementation of the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations, pension provisions, farm debt amnesty, electricity tariff stability, withdrawal of legal actions, and justice for victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence. Other demands include the reinstatement of the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, and compensation for families of farmers who perished during the 2020-21 agitation.
