President Droupadi Murmu, accompanied by Lieutenant Governor Admiral (Retired) DK Joshi, is scheduled to embark on a visit to Campbell Bay in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Tuesday, as conveyed by an official in the administration.

The arrival at Campbell Bay, situated proximate to the Strait of Malacca, is anticipated around noon, facilitated by an aircraft departing from Port Blair. Upon reaching Campbell Bay in the Nicobar district, a cordial reception awaits the President and the Lt Governor, orchestrated by the commander-in-chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN), Air Marshal Saju Balakrishnan, alongside other esteemed senior officers.

The distinguished gathering will include senior officers from INS Baaz, a forward operating base of the Indian Naval Air Arm, overlooking both the Strait of Malacca and the Six Degree Channel between Great Nicobar and the Indonesian island of Sumatra, as elucidated by the official. The President’s visit to Campbell Bay assumes significance due to its adjacency to the Strait of Malacca, a crucial artery in global shipping routes.

Post-arrival at Campbell Bay, the President will be conveyed to Indira Point via helicopter, where a comprehensive briefing awaits, expounding upon the historical and geostrategic significance of the locale, as disclosed by the official. Subsequently, at approximately 1.30 pm, the President will partake in tribal cultural events, culminating in her return to Port Blair around 4 pm. The itinerary further includes a visit to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island (formerly known as Ross Island) by boat at 4.30 pm, where she will witness a captivating light-and-sound show, as detailed by the spokesperson.

The President will be apprised of the proposed National Memorial on the island, with her return to Port Blair scheduled for approximately 7 pm.
