In the city of Itanagar, situated in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a momentous visit on Saturday, unveiling an array of initiatives totaling an impressive Rs 55,600 crore investment in the Northeast region. Notably, the inauguration included the strategic Sela tunnel, a project of paramount significance.
The Sela tunnel, designed to ensure all-weather connectivity to the picturesque Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, stands as a testament to modern infrastructural prowess. The project, distinguished not only for its efficiency in regional transportation but also for its strategic location near the country’s border with China, witnessed its inaugural moment with the symbolic flagging off of an Arunachal Pradesh State Transport bus.
In a comprehensive display of commitment to regional development, the Prime Minister revealed projects spanning Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, and, of course, Arunachal Pradesh during a program held in Itanagar. The cumulative value of the projects unveiled in Arunachal Pradesh alone exceeded a staggering Rs 41,000 crore.
Among the noteworthy initiatives, the foundation stone was laid for the ambitious Dibang Multipurpose Hydropower Project in the Lower Dibang Valley district. This monumental endeavor, slated to incur an investment of Rs 31,875 crore, is poised to become the nation’s tallest dam structure upon completion.
Additionally, the Prime Minister presided over the commencement of various projects, encompassing the domains of roads, environmental initiatives, tourism endeavors, and the enhancement of educational institutions. The inauguration ceremony extended to cover approximately 1,100 projects aligned with the Jal Jeevan Mission in the state, along with the activation of 170 telecom towers under the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF), benefiting over 300 villages, among other commendable ventures.
