Anticipating the imminent Lok Sabha election, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on Tuesday, April 9, vehemently accused the preceding Congress administration of perpetrating “injustice” upon the populace of Assam.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Sukuli Bhoria within the Lakhimpur constituency of Assam, Shah asserted, “To Rahul Baba (Rahul Gandhi), I must convey that Assam has endured injustice since the era of your grandmother (Indira Gandhi). Countless youths fell victim to violence. This transgression rests squarely upon the Congress party. Under the leadership of Narendra Modi, the government has forged over 10 accords to restore tranquility to Assam. Presently, nine thousand youths have embraced normalcy by surrendering.”

Taking aim at Rahul Gandhi’s pledge to “restore Assam’s dignity,” Shah retorted, “You failed to acknowledge Gopi Nath, Bhupen Hazarika. It’s the Narendra Modi-led BJP government that bestowed Bharat Ratna upon Bhupen Hazarika.”

Shah further asserted that the BJP government successfully curbed “infiltration” across the Assam-Bangladesh borders, effectively halting rhino poaching, thereby invigorating the tourism sector in Assam.

Significantly, BJP’s incumbent MP Pradan Baruah is vying for re-election in Lakhimpur, contending against Congress candidate Uday Shankar Hazarika for the third consecutive term.

In the preceding general election in 2019, the ruling BJP clinched victory in 9 seats.

The polling for five seats in Assam is slated for the first phase on April 19. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will grace Assam to rally support for BJP contenders in Lakhimpur and Tinsukia.

Shah stands as the foremost national luminary to partake in the electoral campaign within the northeastern state since the announcement of the election schedule.

Subsequently, Shah will proceed to Tinsukia, within the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency, following his address at the rally in Lakhimpur.

In the evening, he will lead a roadshow from Chaliha Nagar to Thana Chariali in Tinsukia town, advocating for the party’s nominee from the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha seat, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

It is noteworthy that a triangular contest is anticipated between BJP’s Sarbananda Sonowal, United Opposition Unity Forum’s common candidate Lurinjyoti Gogoi, and AAP’s Manoj Dhanwar for the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha seat.
