Prem Singh Tamang, the leader of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), attributed the party’s resounding triumph in the state assembly elections to the relentless dedication of its members and the populace’s faith in his administration.
The SKM clinched power in the mountainous state for a consecutive term, capturing 26 out of 32 assembly seats, with counting still in progress and the party leading in five additional constituencies.
Following the sweeping victory, Tamang, also the chief minister, expressed gratitude to the party’s adherents and the electorate of Sikkim. “Our success is rooted in the affection and confidence bestowed upon us by the people over the past five years in office. Moreover, our party members toiled indefatigably. We now have another five years to devote ourselves wholly to the service of Sikkim,” he stated at a congregation in Paljor Stadium, Gangtok.
Tamang secured wins in both the Rhenock and Soreng-Chakung constituencies. In 2019, the SKM had seized 17 seats, dethroning the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) which had governed for a quarter-century. SDF’s president and former chief minister, Pawan Chamling, was defeated in both his contested constituencies.
“I extend my gratitude to the opposition as well; their presence has fortified and organized our party,” Tamang remarked.
He urged his party members to remain composed in the wake of their overwhelming victory.
