New Delhi: Accusing the Tihar Penitentiary administration of abruptly nullifying the rendezvous between Delhi Minister Atishi and Chief Magistrate Arvind Kejriwal, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh asserted on Wednesday that “even the British dominion had not encountered such demeanor.”
The Tihar Penitentiary administration did not promptly respond to the allegations. Addressing a media briefing, Singh proclaimed that Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj and City Educational Minister Atishi were slated to meet the chief magistrate in Tihar.
“However, Atishi’s appointment remained unconfirmed yesterday. Delhi Educational Minister Atishi sought the appointment, and abruptly, her appointment was revoked,” Singh articulated.
“Subsequent to the cancellation of her appointment, the national general secretary (organization) of the party, Sandeep Pathak, was slated to accompany Bharadwaj, but he was notified around 9.30 am today that even his appointment had been revoked,” he appended.
Singh probed the rationale behind this move and voiced apprehensions that Kejriwal might not even be permitted to meet his consort in days to come. “You are annulling an MP’s appointment, a minister’s appointment with Kejriwal. Previously, you nullified my appointment with him. Tomorrow, you might nullify the appointment with his consort. Such demeanor was unheard of even during the British dominion,” he articulated.
Singh articulated that he intends to correspond with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on this issue. “He is being subjected to treatment more severe than that meted out to terrorists or hardened criminals. They are permitted to personally meet their legal counsel and their kin, yet you are obstructing his appointments,” he articulated.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader contended that “no justifications were provided” for the annulment of the appointment. Earlier in the day, Bharadwaj had a 30-minute-long appointment with Kejriwal.
“I held a half-hour consultation in the ‘mulakat jangla’. He expressed that people need not fret over him. He asserted that he is resolute and will persevere in his struggle with the blessings of the denizens of Delhi,” he conveyed to reporters post the appointment.
The ‘mulakat jangla’ is a metallic mesh that segregates the detainee from the visitor in a chamber within the prison. A visitor and a detainee can engage in discourse by being seated on divergent sides of the mesh.
Kejriwal was apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a case of money laundering on March 21. The chief magistrate has refrained from resigning subsequent to his apprehension, with the AAP asserting that he shall continue governing from the penitentiary.
