In the heart of Jaipur, the vibrant capital of Rajasthan, a viral video on social media features BalMukundAcharya, a leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), passionately advocating for the closure of illegal slaughterhouses. While the video sparked reactions, a BJP legislator clarified that their intent was to shut down these unauthorized establishments, not legitimate meat shops.
Chronic Issues: 117 Licenses vs. 1000-1500 Slaughterhouses
Acharya fervently opposes these illegal slaughterhouses, consistently demanding thorough investigations. In the vicinity of Hawa Mahal, a mere 117 licenses exist, yet over 1000-1500 such unauthorized slaughterhouses operate. Numerous complaints have been lodged against these illicit establishments. Acharya sheds light on grievances regarding the sale of white meat, specifically beef, within these locations. Notably, the legislator highlights the involvement of Bangladeshi nationals in running these illegal operations.
Apara Kashi, Not Karachi: BalMukundAcharya’s Perspective
Referred to as Apara Kashi, this area attracts tourists from across the nation and abroad. However, distressing images of meat being butchered on streets outside these unauthorized slaughterhouses tarnish its reputation. Acharya emphasizes a neutral stance on consumption and trade but strongly opposes such public displays. Addressing the media, he reiterates, “This is Apara Kashi, not Karachi.” He clarifies that his communication with authorities was solely to seek licenses for illegal establishments, asserting no wrongdoing.
Ethical Predicaments, Not Communal Divides
Acharya confronts those who weave religious or communal narratives around this issue, asserting that seeking licenses for unauthorized slaughterhouses is an ethical, not religious, stance. He affirms, “This area comprises around two and a half lakh voters. Muslim sisters tie Rakhi to me, and nearly 200 Muslim brothers converse with me daily. We aim to regulate illegal slaughterhouses to preserve the city’s essence as Apara Kashi, sustaining tourism through adherence to regulations.”
Electoral Triumph: BalMukundAcharya’s Victory
Recently triumphing in the Hawa Mahal Assembly constituency, Acharya secured 95,989 votes, surpassing the Congress Party’s R.R. Tiwari by 974 votes. The Aam Aadmi Party had fielded Pappu Quraishi for this seat, yet Acharya emphasizes the presence of numerous unauthorized slaughterhouses even in Quraishi’s domain.
This stands as a testament to BalMukundAcharya’s unwavering commitment to ethical governance and his tireless efforts to regulate illegal practices, irrespective of political boundaries.
