Amidst the grandeur of New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed admiration for the significant contributions of individuals bestowed with the prestigious Bharat Ratna by President Droupadi Murmu. In a solemn gesture, he honored former prime ministers P V Narasimha Rao and Charan Singh, alongside other esteemed personalities.
“Each Indian holds dear the remarkable endeavors of PV Narasimha Rao Garu in service of our nation, and takes pride in his Bharat Ratna accolade. His tireless efforts in propelling our nation’s advancement and modernization resonate deeply. He is revered not only as a statesman but also as a profound scholar and philosopher. His legacy shall endure eternally,” remarked Modi on the occasion.
Reflecting on Singh’s Bharat Ratna, Modi underscored its significance in acknowledging his pivotal role in India’s progress, particularly in the realms of agriculture and rural development. “This recognition serves as a beacon, inspiring future generations to embody the virtues of diligence, commitment, and selfless service exemplified by him,” he asserted.
The conferment of the country’s highest civilian honor upon Karpoori Thakur was hailed by the prime minister as a befitting tribute to a stalwart dedicated to the cause of social justice and egalitarianism. Renowned as a champion of the underprivileged, Thakur’s unwavering commitment to the upliftment of marginalized communities and his relentless advocacy for the rights of the backward classes have indelibly shaped the societal landscape of India, Modi remarked.
“The Bharat Ratna bestowed upon him underscores the ethos of inclusivity and compassion that form the bedrock of our nation,” he added. In reference to agronomist M S Swaminathan, Modi lauded his seminal contributions to the field of agriculture, describing him as a venerable figure revered for his groundbreaking research in genetics and agricultural science.
“He played a pivotal role in propelling India from adversity to self-sufficiency in food production. May the Bharat Ratna conferred upon him serve as a catalyst, inspiring more individuals to delve into research in agriculture and food security,” remarked Modi. The posthumous conferral of the honor upon all four luminaries saw their family members receive the accolade on their behalf, with veteran BJP leader L K Advani being the sole living recipient this year.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the Bharat Ratna bestowed upon former prime ministers P V Narasimha Rao and Chaudhary Charan Singh, agricultural scientist M S Swaminathan, and two-time former Bihar chief minister Karpoori Thakur as a testament to the Modi government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of farmers, marginalized communities, and backward classes.
