Following the issuance of a non-bailable arrest warrant to former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, the BJP has accused Congress leaders of orchestrating a “conspiracy” in response to their “embarrassing defeat” in the Lok Sabha elections.

On Thursday, BJP leader Yediyurappa found himself facing a non-bailable warrant under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, pertaining to an alleged sexual assault case involving a minor girl.

Expressing their stance via their official platform, BJP Karnataka asserted, “In the wake of the humiliating setback in the Lok Sabha elections, Congress leaders are obsessively concocting schemes against the BJP.” The statement continued, “Fuelled by animosity towards the BJP, Congress is now endeavoring to apprehend our esteemed leader BS Yediyurappa, based on allegations from an emotionally unstable individual. This follows Rahul Gandhi’s legal entanglements for disseminating misinformation against the BJP in Karnataka.”

The party’s social media post further alleged that Congress is employing diversion tactics amidst a corruption scandal implicating Minister B. Nagendra. “In light of the corruption allegations surrounding Minister B. Nagendra within the Maharshi Valmiki Development Corporation, and the subsequent accusations against the government itself, Congress has contrived a ploy to deflect attention by tarnishing Yediyurappa,” BJP stated.

Additionally, BJP pointed out that State Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara had previously dismissed the complaint from the “emotionally unstable” individual. “Earlier, State Home Minister Dr Parameshwara himself had declared the complaint from the emotionally unstable individual as baseless and malicious. It’s ludicrous that the case is being resurrected after three months,” the party remarked.

Furthermore, they questioned the government’s singular focus on Yediyurappa amidst 53 complaints filed by the individual, including ones against her own family members. “Why the sudden urgency to arrest three months after the complaint was lodged?” BJP queried. Intensifying their criticism of Congress, the party warned of dire consequences if the party persisted with its divisive politics in the state.

“If Congress leaders in Delhi succumb to such despicable, vengeance-driven politics and target Yediyurappa, there’s no doubt that Congress will face expulsion from Karnataka,” asserted BJP Karnataka. Notably, in March, the victim’s mother lodged a complaint against the former Chief Minister at the Sadashivanagar police station in Bengaluru, alleging sexual assault by Yediyurappa.

Subsequently, the victim’s brother filed a petition in court, leading to the issuance of a non-bailable warrant against the former CM of Karnataka by a fast-track court, mandating his immediate arrest. According to a statement from Yediyurappa’s office, he has sought anticipatory bail at a special court to avoid arrest. Yediyurappa is currently in the national capital.
