In Chennai, the departure of a Kolkata-bound IndiGo flight faced a delay of approximately two hours on Monday morning due to a bomb threat targeting the aircraft.
Reportedly, the IndiGo call centre at Thuraipakkam received a threatening call, claiming the presence of an explosive device on board the aircraft, ready to detonate at any moment.
As a precautionary measure, authorities promptly relocated the aircraft to an ‘isolated bay’ for a thorough security sweep. Clearance for departure was granted only after the exhaustive security protocol concluded. The flight eventually took off at 10:30 am, two hours past its scheduled departure time, as confirmed by officials.
This marks the second bomb threat incident involving an IndiGo flight this month. Earlier on June 1, a Mumbai-bound IndiGo flight departing from Chennai was subjected to a similar threat, resulting in an emergency landing. The aircraft, accommodating 172 passengers, underwent thorough security screening after disembarkation.
Another incident occurred on May 28 when a Varanasi-bound IndiGo flight originating from Delhi received a bomb threat. Subsequently, all 176 passengers were evacuated through emergency exits at the Delhi airport, followed by a comprehensive security check.
