In Jalpaiguri, an alleged trafficker met his demise in a shootout with Border Security Force (BSF) personnel along the Indo-Bangladesh border in the Bhatpara Border Outpost region within West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district, as per police reports on Tuesday.
The deceased individual, Kazirul Haque (aged 46), hailing from the Bangamali Chaulhati vicinity under the jurisdiction of Rajganj police station, was the identified figure. BSF authorities asserted that suspected traffickers were caught in the act of infiltrating India by severing the barbed barrier late last night.
A member of the BSF patrol squad discharged several rounds into the atmosphere in an attempt to deter the wrongdoers, yet the latter retaliated by opening fire on the personnel.
In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, several BSF personnel sustained injuries. The confrontation unfolded in the Bhatpara BOP locale, under the jurisdiction of the 195th Battalion in Jalpaiguri district.
It has come to light that the deceased, Kazirul Haque, carried a criminal record with 12 cases filed against him across various police precincts, earning him the status of a notorious figure in Bangladesh.
Per BSF sources, the assailants initially hurled projectiles at the personnel before resorting to firearms. The BSF patrol team found themselves compelled to return fire in self-preservation, resulting in one individual sustaining gunshot wounds. Despite being transported to the Jalpaiguri Super Specialty Hospital by the personnel, medical professionals pronounced him deceased upon arrival.
BSF promptly notified the local police regarding the incident.
