A barrage of stones assailed a Delhi-bound Vande Bharat Express locomotive from Amritsar, near the Phagwara railway section on Wednesday. Resultantly, two glass windows suffered severe damage, authorities revealed, emphasizing that there were no casualties in the occurrence.
Poonam Kalra and Dali Thukral, inhabitants of Gurugram, occupying seats in the C3 coach, recounted hearing a cacophonous disruption shortly after embarking the Vande Bharat Express journey from Phagwara. Despite the commotion, discerning the source proved elusive. Upon closer inspection, they discerned two glass panes bore fractures.
One window exhibited a fissure on its panel, while the other bore a diminutive perforation on the glass surface. The culprits behind the stone onslaught remained unidentified.
According to certain travelers, juveniles frolicking in proximity to the railway tracks might have instigated the assault, while others attributed it to malevolent actors. Railway personnel promptly attended to the coach, gathering intel on the incident.
Officials underscored that such instances of stone pelting on trains along the Phagwara-Guraya railway stretch have been conspicuously absent for an extended period. Consequently, an inquiry into the matter has been initiated, they declared.
Previously, in March, projectiles were launched at four Vande Bharat Express locomotives at diverse locations within Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, within the purview of the South Western Railway zone.
