In the aftermath of the fourth round of discussions between Union Ministers and farmer leaders in Chandigarh, Union Minister Piyush Goyal confidently affirmed the positivity and depth of their dialogue. Anticipating the farmer leaders’ decision on government proposals by tomorrow, Goyal highlighted the constructive suggestions put forth by the farmer union representatives. These proposals, aimed at benefiting farmers in Punjab and Haryana, promise positive repercussions for the overall economy and the country’s consumers.
Goyal emphasized the infusion of new ideas during the productive exchange with Bhartiya Kisan Mazdoor Union and other farmer leaders. The discussions not only delved into immediate decisions but also focused on the continuation of the agricultural advancements initiated by PM Modi over the past decade.
An innovative proposal takes center stage, as Goyal disclosed plans for the Cotton Corporation of India to engage in a 5-year legal agreement with farmers, ensuring the purchase of crops at MSP. The outcome of these proposals awaits the decision of the farmer union, scheduled for tomorrow morning, with additional discussions planned with NCCF and NAFED upon the return to Delhi.
Highlighting the government’s out-of-the-box approach, Goyal outlined a visionary plan where cooperative societies like NCCF and NAFED will enter a 5-year contract to buy products from farmers on MSP, without quantity limitations.
The backdrop of the ongoing farmer protests in Punjab, demanding legal guarantees for MSPs and loan waivers, adds urgency to these deliberations. Despite previous inconclusive talks, the government’s commitment to addressing farmers’ concerns remains evident.
As thousands of farmers persist in their ‘Delhi Chalo’ call, facing obstacles at the Punjab-Haryana border, the need for a resolution becomes more pressing. The protesting farmers, stationed at the Shambhu border since February 13, await a decisive outcome, with hopes pinned on the ongoing discussions.
